Various types of Kitchen cabinet hinges are available, each for typical applications.
Various hinges are available on the market, and it’s easy to be confused about which one is the correct one. Consider the following, which will be very helpful for your options.
Cup Hole Diameter
Make sure to measure the door’s hole, not the hinge itself, as the hole is typically 26mm, 35mm, or 40mm for larger hinges.
Opening Angle
The most common cabinet door opening angles range from 40 to 170 degrees. It’s important to select cabinet hinges based on the door’s angle.
Hinge Overlay
Full Overlay: Door covers cabinet carcass when closed.
Half Overlay: Two doors on one cabinet carcass.
Inset Overlay: Door front flush with carcass edge.
Carcass and Door Thickness
The thickness of the door and carcass determines the mounting plate size. Typical thicknesses are 15/16mm or 18/19mm, but other sizes are available for glass and plastic doors.
Hinge Mounting Plate Connection
Please note that hinges can be either clip-on or slide-on. Clip On hinges attach to the cupboard side without screws, while Slide On hinges slide onto the mounting plate and then need to be screw-fixed into position.
Function: If you want a quieter kitchen, consider opting for soft-close options.
performance in your electrical projects.
Three standard cabinet hinge closing mechanisms are self-closing, soft-close, and free-swing. Self-closing hinges are budget-friendly but less convenient. Soft-close hinges are popular due to their gentle closing motion. Many older homes have self-closing and free-swing hinges, often replaced with soft-close hinges. When replacing, remember to replace both hinges if switching to soft-close.
Lazy Susan cabinets usually require two types of hinges. The first type needs a wider opening angle of 155 to 170 degrees to connect the first door to the cabinet. The second type, a pie-corner hinge, requires a smaller opening angle of 135 degrees to connect the first door to the second one. Below is an illustration of the hinges on the corner cabinet.
To install kitchen cabinet hinges correctly, there are usually needs to follow the below process:
